Roman Pillars

Our Ancient History study of the fall of Rome....

First day of full school!

Image
We started our full school routine today! We have been working up to this point during the last week or so. It was a good first day full of math, science, language arts and science. Of course there were projects and experiments to do! Here Emma is making the dough for her Roman pillar cookie! I'll post the final picture later this afternoon. Of course she had to lick the bowl! Here we are testing to see how many pennies we can put into the cup before the water overflows. I think she got up to 50 something but I know the water was leaking out before then since the towel was soaked! :-) I am so blessed that I am able to homeschool Emma. It's not something I ever thought I would do but I am very glad that we are. I love being involved and knowing what she is doing all day. I love the interactions we have, the conversations we have... because soon these days will be gone...

Sand in the City - Part 1

Image
We went down to "Sand in the City" again this year. We love looking at all the creativity with sand! It always amazes us how people can not only come up with these ideas but make them into works of art! Toy Story 3 with Mr. Potato Head in pieces This was one of my favorites! This is Emma's favorite part... playing in the sand. They always have the best sand to play in!

Sand in the City - Part 2

Image
Emma & Robert made this crazy hat at one of the craft stations. She didn't want me to take a picture but I was able to snap one anyway! :-) They had a doctor there putting "casts" on kids arms. Emma said she always wanted to know what it would be like with a broken arm without the pain! Especially since a friend of hers broke her arm this summer. Here she is with her "cast". It only lasted for maybe an hour before she took it off. Good thing she didn't break it for real! :-)

Last Day - Blast Off Camp

Image
Emma had a great time at the Museum of Flight's "Blast Off" camp. She learned about rockets, space and more! Robert & I arrived a little early to pick her up from camp. We snapped theses pictures of her in her classroom. :-) Here she is playing a game while waiting for us to pick her up. Here is our "Blast Off" graduate! She is so excited for next year already!

Day 4 - Blast Off Camp

Today at camp Emma got to tour the brand new planetarium at the museum. She said it was pretty cool. Then they had lunch and made a map after lunch. And that was about it! Though I think there was more that they did, she just can't remember! But it does make me thankful that I homeschool because I know what she does all day! She did say that she wishes she could go for another week! Well that's good! I guess she doesn't miss us too much!

Day 3 - Blast Off Camp

I called Emma this afternoon like I have every day this week to check how camp went. They were at Toys R Us when I called. Here is how our conversation went: Mom "Hi Emma!" Emma, "Hi Mama" Mom, "How was camp today?" Emma, "I got 2 Littlest Pet Shop toys!" Mom "Cool! So what did you do at camp today? I've been updating our blog so people can know what you're doing at camp." Emma, "I don't know." Mom, "Do you want me to call you back later? Are you distracted with shopping at Toys R Us? Emma, "Yeah" Mom, "Ok I'll call you later so that you can tell me all about it." So later when I called her this is what she said she did... "Made a parachute, had lunch, listened to a story, had a snack and it was a boy's birthday so we had cupcakes." Hmm seems to me she left out some information. Considering she is there from 9 am - 4 pm! Ahh the joys of adolescence! We'll see what tomo...

Day 2 of Blast Off Camp

No pictures but cool news from Emma! Today she got to see President Obama land in Seattle. Their group got to go see him land and deplane. She said she saw his hand. Then she informed me that he didn't get into a limo but a "big black Subaru"! I asked her if she meant a big black SUV and she said yes. They also got to see him take off out of Boeing Field. She was disappointed since today they were supposed to start on their Space Helmets. But due to President Obama flying in, it has been postponed until tomorrow. :-) She is having a blast! What a great opportunity for her to be able to see an American President. (Robert & I will keep our opinions to ourselves) :-) More tomorrow!

Blast Off Aerospace Camp

Image
Emma went to aerospace camp at the Museum of Flight again this year. This year she went to the "Blast Off" rocket camp. She really wanted to go to this camp but we weren't sure she would be able to since it was full. But several days ago, they emailed to tell us that they had a spot for her! So off she went to stay with Grammie so she could go to camp! Here she is on the first day. She was so excited but a little apprehensive too! Monday - When we talked to her she told us that she made 5 friends! She also did some crafts, took a tour of the Concord and former Air Force One. More to come...

Drive In

Image
We took Emma to her first drive in movie this weekend. Despicable Me & Toy Story 3 were showing. We knew that we would stay for Despicable Me but weren't sure about Toy Story since it would be really late. We already saw Toy Story 3 as well. Here she is doing a little pre-show warm up... Cheese! Robert & I haven't had this is ages! We introduced it to Emma who loved it too! The movie! They still had the speaker poles but not the speakers. Now you just tune your radio into an FM station. But as we were leaving they were showing the old ads for the snack bar which was cool! It was a great movie and we all had a great time!
